Poway is best-known for its incredible schools. In fact, it has one of the best school districts in the state. Many of Poway’s elementary, middle, and high schools—including Tierra Bonita Elementary, Oak Valley Middle, and Del Norte High just to name a few—are among California’s list top-rated schools.
2. It offers a taste of the country within the city.
Poway has earned the slogan “the city in the country” because its atmosphere still reflects its rural roots. People treat each other like neighbors, greet each other on the street, and meet up at the local farmer’s market. All this contributes to the laid-back atmosphere you’ll find there.

Poway has long been listed as one of the safest places to live in San Diego. In fact, it’s the only San Diego city to be listed as one of California’s safest cities.
In 2018, the city had only 1.15 violent crimes and 11.42 property crimes per 1,000 inhabitants, which is incredibly low compared to other areas.
When you move to Poway, you have the benefit of feeling safe while raising your family instead of worrying about criminal activity and influences.
5. It offers many family-centric activities.
Another great reason to raise your family in Poway is that the city offers plenty of activities that the whole family can enjoy. In fact, I like to joke that there’s too much to do!
During the holidays, your kids can play in fake snow and enjoy holiday events. For instance, in Old Poway, they have a hobo campout for the kids and provide s’mores and hot chocolate. And during the summer, you can send your children to summer camps at Lake Poway.
All year round, your entire family can enjoy the numerous parks, hiking trails, and biking paths. Like I said—there may be too much to do!
6. Poway has all you need—and is close to all the major highways.
One of my favorite things about Poway is that, although it’s very self-contained, it’s also close to all the major freeways. So while the atmosphere is set apart from the big-city vibe, you can still easily get to anywhere you need to go in San Diego.
And yet, when you move here, you’ll find you don’t have to leave Poway very often. In and of itself, Poway has so much to offer. It features plenty of beautiful shops, grocery stores, hospitals, gyms and more—and it even has its own sports team!
