Is there anything better than walking into your favorite restaurant and soaking up the sights and sounds?
Maybe it’s an old-fashioned ’50s diner or a quaint bistro downtown or even an elegant steak house that makes for a perfect mini romantic getaway. There’s something about going to your favorite restaurant that gives you the feeling of stepping into another world.
With the pandemic, though, fewer of us are able to enjoy a nice meal at our favorite sit-down restaurant.
But what if you could bring that magical restaurant experience to your very own dining room? I think you can!
By strategically adding restaurant décor to your dining room, you can recreate that eating-out experience.
So where do you start? Here’s what I suggest:
Add Texture
If you’re in love with the bistro feel, try adding some fuzzy pillows and a cozy (preferably washable) floor rug to draw attention to the space. A simple couch off to the side can create a similar effect.
For a quainter feel, focus on old-fashioned or farmhouse pieces such as a marble accent table or burlap placemats.
Change Up the Seating
Is it just me or have you noticed that more and more restaurants are using non-conventional furniture in their dining rooms? I have to say, I think it’s a great trend!
For your home dining room, adding some armchairs, stools, or benches will have a big impact. It provides something unique and cozy to an otherwise traditional room in the house. Greenery like fake vines adds a romantic touch, too.
Gild the Room
If you absolutely adore a luxurious look, you don’t have to go to a fancy restaurant to find it. The right accent pieces can add the perfect amount of polished beauty you crave.
One of the easiest ways to bring elegance to your dining room is to add a gilded mirror. And it doesn’t have to be expensive! Just keep an eye out for these and other special touches at garage sales and some décor stores.
If you have some extra cash to spend on decorating, then consider adding a graceful chandelier above the table. You can find some beautiful ones for a few hundred dollars. But if you want something extravagant—bigger, more ornate, or higher-quality crystal—you’re looking at a price tag of several thousand.
Mix and Match
Take an eclectic approach to your dining room to add some fun to your family’s dinnertime. No need to use matching chairs or place settings. It’s all about finding standalone pieces you love and putting them together.
“But won’t that just look messy?” you might wonder. Well, if it doesn’t look intentional, then yes.
They key to pulling off this look is to get things that have the same eclectic feel to them. Make sure you have a unifying element. For instance, get décor that fits into the same color scheme or style. You’ll find it difficult to pair a lime green plastic placemat with a rustic wooden centerpiece.
Add Ambience
Place an eye-catching vase full of fresh flowers on your table, add soft lighting or candles, and play ambient music over speakers to remind you of your favorite restaurant or bar.
Even something as simple as using cloth napkins or a checkered table cloth can make you feel like you’re at that café you love.
Create a special place for you and your family to enjoy cozy meals by adding a few simple touches to your dining room. Even with more time at home, there’s no reason we can’t enjoy a “dining out” sense of elegance.
